Vibrant Communities cooks up first Scottish Housing Day event

[dropcaps round=”no”]Some [/dropcaps]of us can’t wait for the official Scottish Housing Day next month. Last night, East Ayrshire Council’s Vibrant Communities organised the first Scottish Housing Day event: a supported cooking session.

The Vibrant Communities programme matches befrienders with care-experienced young people who are transitioning  into their own tenancies. The befrienders assist them with develop  cooking skills, life skills, budget management and coping strategies to combat loneliness and isolation within the community. Young people are supported further to develop responsible citizenship in order to sustain their own tenancies.

Last night the young people chose the menu last night of lasagne, garlic bread, potato wedges, salad and fruit juice.  They were included in going to the supermarket and buying all ingredients and helping with the cooking and setting the table.

It was a successful event and the team intends to continue it indefinitely – every second Thursday of the month until further notice.
