Case Study – Jamie McAleese

Jamie McAleese is in the process of completing a Modern Apprenticeship in Housing with Cloch Housing Association. The 21-year-old from Greenock is working alongside the Corporate Services Team.

A former Inverclyde Academy pupil, Jamie declared that he continually works hard in order to seek the best out of his apprenticeship:

“You have to constantly strive to improve your knowledge and understanding. You have to always be asking questions and be proactive in seeking out information, tasks or advice. The more you ask, the more you will learn.”

As part of his apprenticeship, Jamie spends time learning and developing his skills with each department: “The best part of my apprenticeship is that I get to learn from all departments and get a bit of experience in each area of a housing association.”

When asked whether Jamie would encourage other young people to do an apprenticeship, he responded:

“Absolutely, it’s a great chance to have an even better career in the future.”

He added: “I would advise young people to go for an apprenticeship as it is a fantastic opportunity.”

Corporate services officer at Cloch Housing, Shonaid Musgrove, said:

“Jamie brings an enthusiasm to his respective roles and made us think about how to relate to young workers.”

She added: “Both our Board and senior team were keen to appoint a MA and we are hopeful that we can have 2 MAs in place going forward for the foreseeable future.”
